What is happening in February out and about in our town and surrounds? Which, incidentally, includes the whole world…..but I don’t have quite enough to fill an article about the world, so let’s go for what we can….
To start we have the terrible story of the bushfires ravaging parts of Australia – fortunately, apart from some ‘early in the season’ activity, we have largely been spared in the north east corner of NSW but we do feel everyone’s anxiety and the grief of those who are dealing with loss.
Along with many other artists, I put a painting up for auction to assist in bushfire recovery and I am pleased to report that despite a shaky start, my painting ‘Lennox Sunrise’ has now been sold to a woman who loves it and I have been able to donate the proceeds to the fire recovery efforts. ‘Yay!’
What is happening in February on the exhibition front?
We have a great start to the year with Tanya Ogilvie – White’s Exhibition at Lennox Arts Collective ‘Up in the Trees’ 31 January to 13 February. Tanya is a wildlife photographer and encaustic artist using wax to work on her marvellous photographs to produce fabulous effects.

The annual ‘Town and Gown’ Exhibition at Lennox Public School, organised by Lennox Lions Club will happen on 3rd – 5th April All you artists out there, you can put in an entry – contact is Rena Hurley 0412593894. I’ll be there to enjoy the opening evening too.
What is happening at Lennox Arts Collective with regard to workshops??
I have one on 15th February called – ‘Artist Toolbox – Acrylic and Gouache’. This explains the differences between acrylic, watercolour and gouache paints and I’ll be using the subject of ‘skies’ – think clouds, sunsets etc to do some demonstrating. Always a fun day! Link is here.
Sharon and Narelle are running a really fun one ‘Paint and Sip’ on February 23rd – its a Sunday evening…
Sharon and Narelle say..….’ Join us to unwind, sip on your favourite beverage and paint while we guide you from start to finish to create the featured artwork.
This workshop is aimed at connecting with your creativity, with friends, meeting new ones while learning the steps to make your very own contemporary “Still Life” painting – “a piece that features an arrangement of inanimate objects as its subject such as fruit and flowers..
You supply the wine or your favourite beverage, and we’ll provide all the materials including a 30 x 40cm canvas, paints, easel, apron, glassware and even the soulful tunes.
Both Narelle and Sharon hold a Bachelor of Visual Arts Degree, are full time practicing artists, members of the Lennox Arts Collective. They both have experience in running workshops and continue to offer various art classes. Collectively they have knowledge and experience in a variety art disciplines and media and are excited to share this with you.

What is happening with the French Art Tour? Well, it is filling up, but I have room for a few more people – remember, you don’t have to be an artist, just enjoy art and culture. You can read more here
I am off to tutor again at the Ballina Art Society for seven weeks this term. I have so enjoyed this time with this terrific group over the past few years. Last but not least, I have decided to do the Open Studios Ballina, Byron and Beyond arts trail this year with my friend and brilliant artist colleague, Narelle Bretherton at my home studio. The dates are 23/24th May and 30/31st May.
