October, the month that time changes here in New South Wales and when swimming season starts in earnest. Apart from that normality, everything else is a bit strange……the Archibald Prize is on display now, later than usual, but still happening, so that, at least anchors my year. I’ll pop down to Sydney to see it mid month after I spend a week in the Kangaroo Valley painting and sketching. Really looking forward to that!
On a personal level, life has been very busy and I look forward to continuing that in October and November. The Wednesday classes are a lot of fun and are now full right up until Christmas. In late September I held my home studio workshop over two weekend days where we worked en plain air, played with sketching and painting portraits and landscape.
What is happening with my classes?
The October Saturday workshop on the topic of ‘Interiors’ is also now full as is the November one on ‘Still Life’. I can still accomodate people on the Zoom classes on Tuesdays 10-11am, these are popular and we discuss interesting topics on the history of art, painting still life and more. I also do demonstrations and we do small painting/sketching exercises online. The images below are works I have started (and sometimes finished) in my classes both face to face and online as demonstrations.
If you are having difficulty getting to a class, there are some videos on my You Tube Channel. Here is one on ‘Botanical Delights’ – it will give you an idea of what I do on Zoom.
What is happening at Lennox Arts Collective in October?
Rona McDonnell is our Feature Artist with ‘Out There’ 25 September – 8 October. Magnificent ‘Widescreen’ Landscapes.
And what is next?
Our own Sharon McIlwain, Jenny Schirmer and Jen Banks will be exhibiting ‘Simple Treasures’ 10 – 22 October.
Gorgeous ceramics, jewellery and paintings, fabulously curated!
Coming up very soon is the Open Studios – Ballina Byron and Beyond. My home studio will be open over both weekends 28/29 November and 5/6 December – I am partnering with Narelle Bretherton for this exciting event.
Last but not least, don’t forget Daylight Saving starts on Sunday 4th October!
