New Art! What on earth am I talking about? Well, I am having so much fun building an art centric community with you, my faithful followers, that I have decided to see just how far I can push this and create an even more interactive group of friends and to have my art reaching into the wider world. If you want to be part of this and receive blog posts and my monthly newsletter, please add your name – after being hacked a couple of months ago, I have lost my follower list, so please add again if you didn’t get this post via mail chimp. My approach to my new art world has a number of elements.
- Building a You Tube community to share my love of artistic life and to share with you my own art practice and my approach to art in general. I am doing this with fellow artist and good friend, Narelle Bretherton. We have already created some new art teaching videos and put them onto my You Tube Channel – Christine Read. We are already getting positive results with great comments where some people are trying out painting for the first time!! We are looking for your input into how we can best meet your needs for your own art practice, so please let us know and please ‘like’ the videos!
- Developing an additional way of supporting financially these endeavours by licensing some of my artwork, particularly the new art developed specifically for products available in the marketplace. You all know that textiles, art prints, china, wallpaper and packaging come with design and art to make it appealing, well, that is the area we are expanding in to. Narelle is also helping with this and I have found a great friend in Vinh from Artshine licensing who is coaching and mentoring me through this process. We already have some products ready for sale! The Ecco shopping bag and Teatowel feature my ‘Isolation Picnic’ painting.
I will be in Sydney at the Reed Gift Fair at the International Convention Centre, Darling Harbour on Saturday morning, 17th April, love to see you if you come along. We are at Booth number K50.

In addition to the ‘home’ products, I have also been asked about licensing some of my new art works for ‘Wall Art’ – art printed onto canvas in high definition by a company in the USA. Exciting times indeed!
Of course I will still be part of Lennox Arts Collective in Lennox Head. It is the primary place for exhibiting my paintings and I will very soon have new art works to show. I did a series of works on paper during the winter at Byron Bay, documenting the erosion of the beach in the incredible storm surges. I have now painted a series of four works titled ‘Erosion’ which will soon be on display. I continue to have workshops on Wednesdays and Saturdays once a month in the LAC Gallery information about them here.
