January 2020 News

January 2020 is a pretty mad month, coming as it does straight after Christmas 2019, it thrusts us willy nilly into a completely new year and this time a new decade! It has been madder and sadder than most because of the horrific mega bushfires around our land. First let me pay my utmost respects to everyone who has been working on fires, to people affected by fires and the people who have been doing their best to help in any way. I feel fairly useless as I have done little so far except donate a little money, but I would like to give more so I am joining the movement to auction artwork #ozfireartauction and pledge to give the money raised to an organisation who will use it wisely. I have chosen the (Red Cross).

Lennox Sunrise Acrylic on canvas $880.00
Lennox Sunrise Acrylic on canvas for Auction to support fire effort.

So, ‘Lennox Sunrise’ is the work – it is on my website for sale for $800 and would like to raise at least that much. If you are interested to bid please contact me direct, christinereadart@hotmail.com, or via my instagram account ‘christinereadart’ or Facebook Christine Read Art. I intend to have the auction on until Friday 10th January 2020 at 5pm.

Lennox Arts Collective is also taking part in a raffle at William Street Cafe/Restaurant in Lennox in aid of the fires, we have a hamper of our goods as one of the prizes. The fundraiser is on Sunday 12th January 6.30 – 8pm.

Fantasy Still Life

Life goes on as they say, so lets have a look at other more enjoyable January events. I let you know last month that I was filmed and interviewed for ‘Colour in Your Life’ and I have now been informed that it will go live on ‘You Tube……… on the 7th February and on TV later in the year. I’ll share it when I get the link. I created this painting over the filming process, so you can see how it came together and what I used.

January 2020 Wednesday art class starts again on 15th January and the Saturday Workshop, ‘Painting Water’ is on 25th January. The Saturday workshop only has a couple of spots left, so book in if you don’t want to miss out! It is now possible to book and pay through the website here.

I am in Sydney at present – some of you know that my son, Owen Trevor is a film director and last night I attended the world premiere of his feature film ‘GO!’ at the Moonlight Cinema in Centennial Park. It is a great family film and I had such a good time with friends and family on the red carpet and cheering on the wonderful cast and crew. It opens Australia wide on 16th January 2020, so take the family along and enjoy!

As I am in Sydney I have taken the opportunity to go to the Art Gallery of NSW (as usual – one of my special places to be) and saw the Ben Quilty retrospective – I just love his work, comments on life and attitude – and also the fabulous Japan Supernatural. If you have the opportunity do go and see both.

I also wound my way through the installations and information about John Kaldor’s public art commissions including the wrapping of Little Bay by Christo – I so remember that happening in my teen years and I was fascinated by the enormity of it and the weird beauty when it was complete. It is fascinating now as I get older to see things that happened in my young life brought back into view! So, lets get on with this new decade of art and life by embracing January 2020!
