February Art Newsletter 2018

February art is upon us already! So lets have a look at what is in store this month and in the year ahead on my and other’s art calendars. Usually February Art is unbearably hot – weather wise that is – but it is surprisingly cool this year (or at least this week) and lots of rain – makes for very comfortable painting and thinking and musing. In my mind ‘musing’ on subjects and colours and art that you like is VERY important for an artist. In fact, in class and elsewhere we’ve been talking about taking it slow and stepping back for constant review. So often we change our minds about artwork we’ve done and rework it for the better after a time of reflection.

We were talking about this at the Ballina Art Society where I have been asked to tutor this term. I did my first ‘gig’ last Thursday and very enjoyable it was and such a lively and keen bunch of people. I’m looking forward to what will happen over the next six weeks…

Interesting how a creative gene works its way through a family – my son, Owen Trevor, is a film director and about to make his first feature film in West Australia (proud mum) you can read about that here!  My niece, Madeleine is staying with us for a week’s holiday from Sydney – she is a terrific artist but with a one year old, has not had time to pick up a paint brush but in my studio she suddenly felt the call to create and so we a had a little session together – hopefully there will be more!

At Lennox Arts Collective I have started back on Wednesday mornings 9.30 – 12.30 – there is space for you to come and join us if you wish. The next Saturday workshop (24th February) I am running is all about brush strokes in painting – something that many people find surprisingly difficult. The workshop is almost full and it is important that you book in with me for the Saturday workshops please!

Weekend painting in March includes a workshop on Mixed Media on 10th March and a weekend (2 day workshop) at my home studio in Lennox Head on the weekend of 24/25 March – this will include en plein air painting and drawing, a demonstration on composing and painting still life, botanical drawing and more. I do need a $30.00 deposit for this workshop and the full cost is $220.00. Workshop timetable here.

The Art Retreats in England and France are coming up very soon and we are getting quite excited about the coming adventures. There is still space in the French retreat, so contact me if you are interested.

I posted last December that I had a work in the Art Piece Gallery at Mullumbimby and I have since been informed by the owner, Nadine, that the gallery is for sale, so If you are a person or know a person who may be interested in this fine art gallery I can give you contact details.
