Artist in August Newsletter

Are you an artist, aspiring or otherwise? Well, there are ways you can indulge this pleasure with art classes, workshops, exhibitions and life drawing opportunities at artist run events right here in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. August is one of those in-between months – half winter, half spring in this part of the world and a great time to develop your creative skills.

As most of you are aware I am a member of a group of seven creatives at Lennox Arts Collective in Lennox Head just south of Byron Bay. We were eight artists but are sadly losing Fiona Reddoch who is going to expand her own studio in Broadwater NSW. Her last event with us is Friday night 26th July, opening of our annual Small Wonders exhibition – ‘Sense of Place’. Do come down to see it, judged by international artist, Angus McDonald, and with 150 original artist works to view.

And then …..for those of you wanting to expand your skills in Life Drawing, we are finally starting up the sessions again, facilitated by Narelle Bretherton. They will start again next Wednesday, 31st July and will be a maximum of ten participants.

Many of you know that I run art retreats overseas in England and France. Each year following the adventures I hold an exhibition of my travel sketches – they are done on the spot or soon after and are generally watercolour, gouache and pen. This exhibition ‘My Travel Sketchbook’ runs from 30th August to 12th September with an opening reception on 30th August at 5.30pm. Do come to have a look and enjoy a glass of wine.

I also teach this style of art and will hold a workshop on creating travel sketches on 7th December 2019

Wait! There is more……for those of you who have attended workshops and classes at Lennox Arts Collective during 2019 – note that the work must not have been worked on in other artist workshops, although you can have produced it at home – we are exhibiting your work 27th September to 3 October, with an opening night 5.30pm 27th September at LAC – see conditions below.

Last but not least, I just want you to know that I am holding a workshop called ‘Exploring Landscape’ on 17th August – just a few days after I complete an exciting session in the outback being mentored by artists Idris Murphy and Ross Laurie near Broken Hill. I hope I will have new artistic information and techniques to share with you! Note there are still a few places in my workshop but you do need to book. christinereadart@hotmail.com or 0415230470.
