Is March going to be your art month? It is for Sydney….https://whatson.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/major-events/art-month-sydney – a contemporary art festival 7-30 March. I was down there a few years ago and explored Paddington during art month and it was a great experience and it grows every year. Country Style Magazine also puts out a special ‘Art Month’ edition this month
It is, of course, the month of International Women’s Day (8th March) and this year myself and two friends are celebrating both International Women’s Day and March art month with an exhibition about women.
Narelle Bretherton, Yvette Avard and myself are exhibiting at Lennox Arts Collective with ‘Raw Essence’ – A celebration of Women 15 – 28 March. The opening reception is 5.30pm on the 15th March at LAC, 2/72 Ballina St Lennox Head. My work consists of portraits and ‘women observed’ – women just going quietly about their ordinary lives.
Lennox Arts Collective has also had the pleasure of Michelle Hartnett’s wonderful photographs on display on our Featured Artist Wall since the 1st March and continues until 14th March – do come down and have a look before they disappear!
It is a busy month for me with two workshops – the first, on painting ‘water’ was last Saturday – fourteen enthusiastic artists attended and painted their hearts out!
I also have coming up an art workshop at my home studio in Lennox Head and there are still some places left, so let me know if you are interested – the program includes;
‘We will explore our surroundings weather permitting! – we have an acre of land and sit behind a park containing mature fig trees – so wander around, collect reference material, make reference drawings and photos. Note – you do not have to follow the program – it is only a guide, you can free paint at any time.
If you have ideas for other aspects of art you would like to cover, please bring them along. I would also like you to think about your personal objective for the weekend and maybe a mini project so that there is some direction for you over the course of the two days.
If you don’t have a particular mini project try using the morning’s findings to create some studies using the concept: ’Still Life with extra Life!’. I plan to work on this concept during the weekend.’
And a glass of wine and nibbles to finish!
My next Saturday workshop (6th April) will be ‘All about botanical art’ – I think this topic is the most popular on my calendar. There are still spaces left, but be quick, it usually books out. Previous workshop on Botanical Art here…
There has been a wonderful addition to our team at LAC – Sharon McIlwain, a talented painter who had a very successful exhibition last year at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery. She is teaching painting techniques over 6 weeks on Thursday evenings at LAC Gallery. Pop in and see her work – I bought a beautiful piece to add to my collection of Australian art.
And last, but not least, a fabulous new art supply shop in Ballina Industrial Estate – Ray O’Neill Drive – its called ‘Still @ the centre’ and they have everything you could ever need for your art! The Opening was fun too…
And go on, enjoy Art Month!!
