Last week I visited Brisbane because one of my jobs is to chair medical conferences.  I take every opportunity to see some art, so I managed a quick visit to the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA). I had no idea of the masterpiece I would see; ‘in Pursuit of Venus (infected)’.

This work is the subject of the 2015 QAGOMA Foundation appeal. It has been created by New Zealand artist Lisa Reihana, is a video work, six years in the making, that documents in glorious images the interaction between the European 18th century sailor/explorers and the indigenous population of the Pacific. Beautiful and thought provoking, it is definitely a worthy work for QAGOMA to own and display.
