So, another medical meeting for me, this time in Madrid. A great city, I remember coming here with my husband and the children when they were only 11 and 8 years old. We had a marvellous time, exploring the Prado – which I intend to see tomorrow after the meeting ends, the Royal Palace and the fabulous streets in the old part of the city. My son really connected with the El Grecos’ at the Prado and I like to think it set him on a life long exploration of artistic and creative pursuits.

Yesterday – or was it the day before – was a long one. Ballina to Sydney, then the long haul from Sydney to Dubai – fortunately I love airports and everything to do with flying and to my joy, it was an Emirates A380 aircraft – surely one of the best ever built and the most comfortable layout. When I travel for work, I am lucky enough to be in business class which is a ‘dream’ on this aircraft. Caught up on some movies – watched ‘Mr Turner’ again and really looked at the painting scenes – I didn’t enjoy it the first time round but much better on second viewing.

Connected to Madrid and the fastest I have ever been processed through customs! Have to confess that I watched the whole of episode 5 of Downton Abbey on that leg and cried so much I had a headache and was pretty ‘yuk’ by the time I landed in my hotel. Too tired to explore and knowing there was a big welcome dinner planned, had a little catnap before meeting up with some of my old friends and colleagues, a glass of wine then off to dinner and finally blessed sleep! Today will be a big work day, so needed to have this poor old brain functioning properly – looks like a glorious day outside…
