The September Art happenings have been very happy and creative so far and we still have a couple of weeks to go! The beginning of the month saw one of my students, Jan McGiffen have her very own solo exhibition – what a success it was! A great crowd at the opening on the 1st September, many sales on the night and more as the two weeks of the exhibition progressed. I am very proud to have been involved.
September Art continued with my Saturday workshop on the topic of painting ‘water’, it was a great deal of fun with lots of ideas from very engaged participants. You can see the whole workshop on this post on my blog…
I have been painting a fair bit – mostly in my home studio on the largest commission I have had to date – 1.5 x 1.5m – something of a challenge for me to move around, I had to ask my husband plus van to transport the monster canvas home. The owners have not seen it yet so I will reveal it when they have. Also some work for exhibitions – you get into some and not others, but it is a good exercise to push oneself a bit. I did enter the Paddington Art Prize with my work ‘Ancient Land’ but it didn’t make the final cut.
I hope to enter a couple of smaller works in the Art Piece Gallery at Mullumbimby 30 x 30 cm exhibition.
I am also learning more about websites with WordPress, you might have noticed that I have updated mine but I have masses to learn, so please forgive me if it doesn’t all work perfectly!
Wednesday workshops continue to be fun and socially rewarding. Now that the school holidays have started (firstly with Queensland) people tend to drop in and have some fun during their holidays – its a great way to relax and play creatively. A hardworking man popped in to relax and do some art and was thrilled to have drawn and painted a favourite chicken – I believe the breed is black/red.
The end of the year is approaching very fast, so I have posted dates for all of the activities to the end of the year and the start of 2018 and finalised the dates of my art retreats for 2018. The English Art Retreat is now fully subscribed but there are still places in the French art retreat.
The 7th October and 11th November Saturday Workshops are full, but there is a ‘wait list’ as people often cancel for one reason or another so do contact me if you are keen. I have added in a Saturday workshop on 2nd December on ‘Flowers, Fruit and Objects d’Art – Still Life’.
A reminder that the student exhibition opening night is 27th October.
The Lennox Arts Collective members will have their annual Christmas Exhibition opening on Friday 8th December where you can buy gifts for yourself or others for $300.00 and under.
And on Thursday, 21st September I attended the opening of a series of exhibitions at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery in Ballina, where three of my friends were exhibiting as ‘Arts Fabrika’ – the exhibition is ‘Unlocked’ 20 September to 15 October – do go and check it out as well as the other events; ‘Avian Criminals’, ‘Shadows’ and ‘Enchanted’.
