Many of you know Mark Waller, a fellow artist and the ‘main man’ at the Lennox Arts Collective of which I am a member, along with Narelle Bretherton, Jen Banks, Julian Jett, Fiona Reddoch and Frankie Sharman.
Mark has, unfortunately, in the past week been diagnosed with a brain tumour and has undergone surgery. It was a shock to us all as he was in Perth, Western Australia for an exhibition of his work and to run a series of art workshops when he developed symptoms. He could not return to the East Coast for treatment so his family immediately travelled to Perth to be with him. He has tolerated the surgery well and is recovering but is not allowed to leave WA for another three weeks.
The LAC together with his innumerable friends and associates are helping out and fundraising to pay for the family’s accommodation.
You can support this effort by buying his paintings and DVDs and there is also a fundraising project – please go to his explore acrylics website for more information as well as heaps of tips and tricks for acrylic painters – beginners to advanced! You can also drop into the LAC at 2/72 Ballina St Lennox Head where he has artwork, prints and cards for sale.
Mark Waller usually teaches on Thursdays and has greatly helped many artists with their work over the years; here is a comment from one of them
‘Mark has been an extremely influential mentor to a group of artists in Lennox, so now it is our turn to help him and his family when they need all the help they can get in an extremely difficult time’.
This talented student (who wishes to remain anonymous) has donated her wonderful painting of a turtle to LAC for Mark and any money raised from the sale will go to the fundraising drive. we are hoping for at least $800 from the sale. You can view it at the LAC which is open daily from 10 – 1pm and sometimes longer!
